The Goalkeeper Academy is a soccer training program for children ages 10 – 14 that focuses on teaching technique and confidence in the goalkeeping position. We do this by breaking each class into three main sections: activities designed to improve ball handling, shot stopping and distribution technique, small-sided games that require the application of these skills in game-like situations and scrimmage (if there are sufficient numbers). The skills that will be most emphasized will be hand position, proper footwork, diving and distributing the ball to teammates. The small-sided games will encourage using proper technique to make saves and move the ball to teammates effectively. Scrimmages will be larger games that will be situations for kids to use their skills in a team setting.
Every class will encourage enjoyment of the game and the learning process by giving each child a lot of time with the ball at their feet and in their hands and a lot of encouragement from a positive, knowledgeable and friendly coaching staff. It is our goal that, no matter what your child’s experience and ability level coming into the program, they will have improved skills and belief that they can be a vital part of their team’s success every time they step on the field when they finish our program.
Our Goalkeeper Academy is led by Goalkeepers Coach Mike Foster, an experienced former college goalie who has coached goalkeepers at Willamette University, Chemeketa Community College, CFC and Keizer Soccer Club. Mike has been involved in coaching in the area for the last fifteen years.
All children should come dressed in comfortable athletic clothing and shoes. Indoor soccer and turf shoes are fine. Cleats are not allowed and shin guards are not required. Goalkeeper gloves are encouraged but not required. Bring plenty of water as well.
